Why is your dog aggressive for grooming?
Grooming can be a very overwhelming process for dogs if they weren't desensitized to the process properly. This can be both on the owner of the dog bringing them in often, waiting too long as puppies to get them their first groom, and unfortunately could be how the groomers that have worked on them with have handled them in the past. Aggression often comes from a place of fear. Fear comes from a lack of confidence and a lack of feeling safe. Sometimes dogs get to a point where they no longer can be desensitized because they have been pushed through the grooms in a traumatized state. Here at Biggs and Littles Pet Spa we take the safety of pets and compassion towards their feelings seriously. We do not push dogs past their limits, and if they are scared and are giving us a firm no to what we are trying to do, we listen and respect their boundaries. This is so that we can build trust with them, and whether it be the same appointment or the next time they come in, we hope that trust leads to the no turning into a yes.

It's important to listen to your pet.
It's never okay to hold down dogs and force them to be groomed. It's also extremely dangerous for your pet to push them through clipping or scissoring their coat if they are thrashing, trying to get away, or trying to bite the tools. The chance of your dog getting cut in those situations are extremely high. If the pet is that adamant to not be groomed, the most humane thing is to sedate them and work in small increments to build trust with between the pet and the groomer/ grooming process.
How do you do what's best for your pet?
First step for any pet that has been turned down for service at a different groomer is to find a groomer that can confidently say that they want to help you. We will set an appointment up for any pet, and try to groom them but sometimes with these pets we need to meet them first and find what triggers them the most.
From there we may have you have you bring them in and we go through the process of a groom trying to avoid their triggers and use positive reinforcement. Multiple, close together appointments where we continue to build trust. Our approach is focused on understanding your needs of each individual pet. Every pet is different, and we may need to be try a few different approaches to find what is the best fit for your plan.
"At my grooming salon, the safety and comfort of pets is the number one priority. If owners are dedicated to do what is best for their pets, they will choose humanity over vanity."
